Peter graduated from Rutherford High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University where he earned a B.S. in Marketing. Upon graduation he joined a local realtor and soon discovered he had a passion for selling.
In 1978, while still in his early twenties, he joined forces with his partner, Gene Rochat, and purchased Kurgan-Bergen Realtors in his hometown of Rutherford.
Peter's professional experience, he feels, coupled with his Marketing degree, trained him to be attuned to the ever-changing dynamics of the real estate market. He also feels that the family atmosphere at Kurgan-Bergen, which he encourages, contributes greatly to the success of the company.

Personal and Community Involvement
Both Peter and his wife Joanne, a Rutherford school teacher, are lifelong residents of the town where currently three generations make their home. Their children, Matthew and Jennifer, have followed in their father's footsteps. Matthew is actively working in the organization with his wife Coleen, in addition to running his own business. Daughter Jennifer, a Broker Associate with The Corcoran Group, New York City, specializes in "High-End" Co-ops and Condominiums in the city ranging up to 50 million a unit.
Actively involved in his community, Peter is a Past President of the Rutherford Lions Club as well as serving on the Board of Directors.
A lover of sports, he has sponsored and coached The Rutherford Little League, Boys and Girls Biddy Basketball, Girls Recreation Softball and was a traveling team coach.
While the business of selling real estate is his first passion, his love of travel takes him frequently to his vacation homes in Long Beach Island and south Florida.
